Job Overview:
The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of people, property, and premises. This role involves monitoring and patrolling areas to prevent theft, vandalism, and other illegal activities, as well as responding to emergencies and maintaining order in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Surveillance and Monitoring:
Conduct regular patrols of the premises, both on foot and by vehicle, to ensure the security of the area.
Monitor surveillance equipment and security systems, including CCTV cameras, to detect and report any suspicious activities or security breaches.
Inspect and secure gates, doors, windows, and other access points to prevent unauthorized entry.
Access Control:
Verify the identity of individuals entering and exiting the premises.
Issue visitor passes and maintain accurate records of all entries and exits.
Control access to restricted areas and ensure compliance with security protocols.
Incident Response:
Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, or incidents, such as fire, medical emergencies, or criminal activity.
Assist in evacuations during emergencies, following established protocols and procedures.
Detain and/or report individuals who violate rules or engage in criminal activities to the appropriate authorities.
Customer Service:
Provide directions and assistance to visitors and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
Maintain a visible presence to deter potential threats and provide a sense of security to the public.
Address any concerns or questions from the public in a helpful and respectful manner.
Reporting:
Prepare detailed reports of daily activities, incidents, and observations for management review.
Document and report all security breaches, accidents, or incidents promptly and accurately.
Communicate effectively with law enforcement, emergency responders, and management as needed.
Compliance and Training:
Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Participate in regular training sessions to stay current with security practices and emergency response procedures.
Ensure compliance with South African laws and regulations related to security and safety.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Grade 12. Security training and PSIRA certificate – Grade D.
Experience: Previous experience in security or a related field is an advantage.
Licensing: Valid security guard license as per South African regulations.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with the public and colleagues.
Physical Fitness: Ability to stand, walk, or patrol for extended periods and respond quickly to incidents.
Attention to Detail: Keen observational skills to detect suspicious activities or potential security risks.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to handle and resolve conflicts, emergencies, and challenging situations calmly and effectively.
Reliability: Dependable, punctual, and committed to fulfilling duties as assigned.
